ATNI Energy
Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians (ATNI)
ATNI is organized and chartered as a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation under the laws of the State of Oregon. The organization sets out its membership and operating policies within its Constitution and Bylaws and ATNI Policies & Procedures Manual. Authority for management of the affairs of ATNI are delegated to the Executive Council by the members and further delegated to the Executive Board, Committees, and Executive Director.
ATNI Energy Program
ATNI established the ATNI Energy Program in 1995 to ensure tribal rights and interests were represented in power and transmission issues at the Bonneville Power Administration. Over the years ATNI’s energy work has expanded to regional and national policy processes related to tribal energy, tribal electrical utilities, and transmission issues. ATNI has been involved in regional transmission planning processes, energy efficiency and conservation, renewable energy development, and technical assistance to tribes.
Today, the ATNI Energy Program continues participation and monitoring tribal energy policy and has expanded its scope to building a robust tribal energy network to support NW tribes and providing technical assistance. The latest project in the ATNI Energy Program portfolio is building a NW Tribal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Network to support tribes and connect them to resources and partners.
ATNI Energy Committee
Previously, the "ATNI Energy and Telecommunications Committee," prior to that the "ATNI Utility Subcommittee." The Committee in it's early days was a Subcommittee of the ATNI Economic Development Committee. In 2017 the ATNI Energy Committee committee became a stand alone committee. Today, the ATNI Energy Committee focuses on energy programs and tribal energy policy, specifically related to federal programs, state programs, tribal utility matters, energy infrastructure siting, transmission planning, energy efficiency and conservation, carbon policy, public utility commission and rate proceedings, and emerging issues in the energy sector.
